Statement of Secretary Teresita Quintos Deles in response to the Statement of Support to the Bangsamoro of the Framers of the 1987 Philippine Constitution

We very much welcome the Statement issued by the Framers of the 1987 Philippine Constitution dated January 9, 2015, expressing full support for the creation of the Bangsamoro.
The wisdom of the surviving Framers in weaving the sturdy thread that binds the Constitution, the EDSA Revolution of 1986, and the Bangsamoro speaks of the highest form of statesmanship and patriotism.
We are confident that our leaders in Congress will find inspiration in such wisdom and statesmanship, set aside partisan lines, and take into consideration the supreme national interest as they deliberate on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and pave the way for a plebiscite leading to the establishment of the Bangsamoro.
Like the 1986 Constitutional Commission, Congress shall be judged by history in taking a great leap forward. I have faith that, following in the steps of President Aquino, our legislators will take the high road in enabling confidence and hope to overcome cynicism, and political daring to overcome fear—so that finally, we can quell a war that has been raging for almost half a century and start the work of earnest nation-building under the aegis of one territory and one sovereignty.
I pay tribute to the legacy of the Constitutional Framers—the 14 who have taken a stand, the 4 who could not be reached for reasons of health, and the 30 who have passed on—all of whom are assuredly one in mind and soul with the Filipino people in the quest of an enduring peace.
